Mate with king and queen
The queen does not mate alone. Your king is what takes the escape squares.
With queen and king against a lone king the mate is guaranteed — but the queen does nothing on her own. The three marked squares are the black king's exits, and the one taking all three is YOUR king, on f6. The queen only has to give the check. Keep the picture: the two kings almost facing each other, one square apart.
