Running to the right squareSaving the piece is half of it. The other half is not landing on a square where it gets eaten again.

Now your side. The black pawn on b5 is attacking your bishop on c4 — remember, pawns capture diagonally. You need to get the bishop out. But not every square will do: moving to an attacked square is leaving the piece hanging again, one move later.

Save the bishop. Take it to a square no black pawn can reach.
